  Scientific Research Department of Xizang Minzu University is under the University’s direct leadership, with the function of implementing the research management. The main responsibilities are to formulate and implement the research plans; to improve the scientific management system; to organize all levels of faculty to undertake various research projects; to coordinate multi-disciplinary collaboration, to provide services and enhance the capacity of comprehensive scientific research and technological development; to improve information transfer, science and technology statistics and fruits management; to promote the construction of disciplines and school development; to strengthen the management of intellectual property rights and protect college’s rights and interests; to promote the transformation of scientific research fruits and make the contribution to economic construction and social development of Tibet Autonomous Region.
  Established in 2005, Scientific Research Department of Xizang Minzu University consists of Project Management Section, Fruits Management Section and the Editorial Office of Journal. There are 10 staff members including one Director and one Deputy Director.
  Scientific research profiles:
  First, the study team has formed with distinctive features.
  The old generation scholars including Yu Naichang, Peng Yingquan, Wu Fengzhen, Gu Zucheng and Cheng Funing receive special allowances from the State Council.
  During the late 1990s, with college’s more attention on young generation, a group of young academic leaders emerge in the academic research front. A new generation of academic team has taken into shape including the cross-century academic leaders Qiao Gensuo, Xu Decun, Chi Wanxing, Chen Liming, Di Fangyao, Sun Lin and Zhou Decang, Zhou Yuhua, Mao Yanghai, Zhu Puxuan, Peng Zhiyan, Kang Longli and Sun Fangyun.
  The Journal of Xizang Minzu University was published in 1980 and has become an important position for Tibetology studies ever since. The Ethnic Study University, the Department of Languages and Literature, the Department of History, the Department of Politics and Law and the Department of National Research have been formed with an emphasis on research.
  Great achievements has been made in Tibetology research areas such as the relationship between central government and local government, ethnic theory, Tibetan aesthetic culture, Mamba and Lhoba cultural studies, Tang-Fan relations, Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan socio-cultural and historical research, Tibetan economic research, Tibetan sports research, Tibetan literature, Tibetan local history compilation, Tibetan law and regional ethnic autonomy. A large number of talents have greatly contributed to Tibetology studies. Tibetology has become a major feature of scientific research in the University and great achievements have been made.
  Second, a number of research projects on national and provincial level have been undertaken.
  Since 1980s, Xizang Minzu University has undertaken a number of research projects mainly based on Tibetology. Since the Sixteenth National Congress of CCP , the University has undertaken the "The Relationship Study of Tibetan Religion and Social Development ", " Brief History of Tibetan Sports", "<Records of the Grand Historian > and the National Spirit", "The Study of Development Strategy of Tibetan Higher Education", "The Newspaper Development Study in China Tibetan "," The Cross-cultural Construct in Interpersonal Meaning in Translation", " Tibet Regional Economic History (Ancient and Modern) "," The Study of Qinghai-Tibet History-culture and Geography "," The Relationship Study of Nationalities from Harmonious Society Perspective "and" The Selected Translations of Later-period Indian Classic Buddhism Works "etc. Several are the National Philosophy and Social Science Fund projects.
  Third, a number of research fruits have been achieved.
  A lot of academic fruits are published since 1980s, among them are the " Tibetan Historical Materials in Ming Dynasty" ," Tibetan Historical Materials in Qing Dynasty" , "The Folk Literature Materials of Menba Nationality", "The Interpretation of Si Maqian’s National Ideology", "The History of Literature of Lhoba Nationality" ,"Introduction of Religion in Tibet", "Aesthetic Culture of Tibet", "History of Esoteric Buddhism in Tibet", "Tibetan Culture and Religious Philosophy", "Tibetan Folk Culture" and "The Outline of Tibetan History", "The History of News and Broadcasting in Tibet", "The Study of Tibetan Higher Education". These research fruits are of great significance in Tibetology study area.
  Under the University’s favorable policies, the faculty's enthusiasm for scientific research is increasing greatly these years. The number of various academic fruits reaches 430 high in 2009, an increase by nearly 30% compared to 2008, among which 110 papers were published by Chinese core journals.
